General Information

Pleven is located in the very heart of Miziya, in the agricultural region, surrounded by low limestone hills. Its central location in Northern Bulgaria defines its importance as a big administrative, economic, political, cultural and transport centre. The town is located 170 km from the capital town of Sofia, at 320 km from the Black sea coast, at 50 km from the Danube river, at 130 km from the Danube bridge and at about 70 km from the Balkan. Pleven municipality manages 816.3 sq.m. territory, 580 000 decares of which - land under cultivation.

Industries of interest

  1. Agriculture: The region has intensely developing agriculture, mainly grains and oleaginous plants: wheat, maize, sunflower. Stock - breeding is totally privatized.
  2. Industry: The extracting industry is well developed due to the natural resources of oil and gas. Food processing industry is traditional as well and is represented by a cannery, brewery, tobacco processing factory, enterprises for the production of chicken meat, refined vegetable oil, sugar, etc. There are machine building plants, a cement plant, foundries.
  3. Crafts: The Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Pleven is a scientific-research institution for genetics, breeding, vine propagating material technologies, environmental and resource-economical technologies for grapes, wine and alcoholic drinks production.
